Car Accident on June 12, 2013 Results in One Deceased and One Arrest

On June 12, 2013 at around 11 p.m., a 2003 silver Jeep Grand Cherokee was traveling westbound on East Oltorf Street and veered left, crossing over three lanes of traffic.  It is unknown why the vehicle veered left.  The vehicle then ran over a curb and went through a parking lot before striking another curb and crashing through the doors of a laundry mat.

An employee at the laundry mat, Adan Recendez-Guevara, was struck by the car and pinned up against the machinery.  Magan Garcia, the suspect driver, fled the scene but was apprehended shortly after by police.  Recendez-Guevara survived devastating injuries for nineteen days but unfortunately passed on July 2, 2013 due to his injuries.  Garcia has been charged with Intoxication Manslaughter, a 2nd degree felony, and Failure to Stop and Render Aid, a 3rd degree felony.
